Global Talent visa (subclass 858) - Brisbane migration agent

Global Talent visa (subclass 858) assistance.

The Global Talent visa (subclass 858) is a permanent residence visa for people who are internationally recognised in a target sector. It does not require a job offer, a points test or employer sponsorship.

Before you get excited - read this

The word "internationally recognised" has a specific meaning. It does not mean you are experienced, skilled, or well known in your country. It means your achievements are known and acknowledged beyond your own country. Published research, international awards, patents, invited talks at major international conferences, and significant media coverage are the types of evidence the Department is looking for.

Many people who contact us about the Global Talent visa have strong skills and solid experience but do not meet the "internationally recognised" threshold. If we think your case does not meet the criteria, we will tell you rather than take your money for an application that is unlikely to succeed.

Target sectors

The program currently targets: Resources and Energy, Agri-food and AgTech, Education, Health Industries, Defence, Advanced Manufacturing, Circular Economy, Digitech, Infrastructure and Tourism, Financial Services and FinTech, and Space and Advanced Manufacturing. These change periodically.

Who actually qualifies

You need to demonstrate international recognition in a target sector. You need a nominator who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or an Australian organisation in your field. You need to show you can command a salary at or above the Fair Work high income threshold (currently around AUD $167,500 per year). Recent PhD graduates in a target sector may be exempt from the income requirement.

How the process works

You first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). If the Department is satisfied you may meet the criteria, they invite you to lodge a visa application. The EOI is the critical step. A weak EOI results in no invitation.

How Robbie Toor (MARN 1170356) helps

Robbie assists with assessing your eligibility, preparing the EOI submission and the visa application. He can help identify a suitable nominator and prepare the evidence package. He will give you an honest assessment of whether your case is strong enough before you commit time and money.

Frequently asked questions

No. You need to show you can command a salary above the threshold, but you do not need an actual job offer.
Being highly skilled is not the same as being internationally recognised. The Department wants evidence that your achievements are known beyond your own country. Internal company promotions or local industry awards are generally not enough.
If your EOI is strong, you may receive an invitation within weeks. The visa application itself can be processed relatively quickly compared to other permanent visa pathways.

Visa refused? Notice of intention received? Visa expiring?

ART review deadlines are typically 21 days from the refusal notice date. NOI response deadlines are typically 28 days. Missing these deadlines usually means losing the right to respond or appeal. Every day you wait reduces your options.
